Before a car struck him Aug. 18, 2002, Hastings resident Francis Gruba enjoyed an active life.
"It has affected a lot," he said. "I can't ride a bike, I can't run. I used to play basketball all of the time and I can't do that."
Gruba lost the lower part of his right leg as a result of his injuries and now uses a prosthetic. His injury was so taxing on his body that Gruba began missing a lot of work, and eventually lost his job.
