Students have Zoo-rific time at party

Connor Piranio, 7, reads about fish with his father, Ron Fisher,
Saturday at Lincoln Elementary's Zoo-rific back-to-school party.
As Shanel Rempe read about animals to a handful of children Saturday afternoon, she was surrounded by a gorilla, lion, elephant and zebra.
The gorilla, lion, elephant and zebra were painted, wooden cutouts made specifically for Lincoln Elementary School’s Zoo-rific School Party Saturday, an inaugural event organized by the Lincoln Lions Club parents organization. Rempe is the group’s president.
“Most of the surrounding schools do a carnival, but we wanted something different and something where everything was totally free and they’re not paying for anything except for a shirt,” Rempe said. “We just wanted the kids to come out and have fun.”
