Hastings Utilities getting electric car
After months of debating whether to purchase an electric vehicle, the Hastings Utilities Board of Public Works decided Thursday morning to lease one.
The board approved an $8,320 expense to lease a Chevrolet Volt and the necessary charging station from Kerr Chevrolet. If the board decides to purchase the vehicle after the two-year lease expires, it would cost an additional $34,716.
Purchasing the vehicle outright would have cost close to $40,000.
