Despite finishing as the national runner-up in 2011, the Hastings College men's soccer team was left out of the NAIA preseason rankings that were released Tuesday.
But it's only because of a technicality, HC coach Chris Kranjc said, or more specifically a missed deadline by the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
The Broncos were expected to be a top-five team, but the conference ratings were not sent in time for HC to be included in the national ratings.
Lindsey Wilson (Ky.), which defeated HC 3-2 in overtime to earn the national championship, will start the season on top of the poll for the sixth straight year. Lindsey Wilson received all 19 first-place votes.
The women's soccer team is ranked 12th in the preseason poll after going 19-3-1 and reaching the second round of the NAIA tournament in 2011.
