Parker Hodgen, 5, rides "Motorcycle Jump" Wednesday
during Adams County Fairfest.

Ferris wheels, bouncy houses and roller coasters were ready to take on riders Wednesday for the first night of Adams County FairFest’s carnival.

“The carnival is one of the major spokes in a wheel that makes up the fair,” said Sandy Himmelberg, general manager of Adams County Fairgrounds.

Fourteen-year-old Bryant Menke of Hastings has been coming to the fair for years.
“It’s pretty fun,” Menke said. “The Caterpillar’s my favorite. I’ve ridden on it every year since I was 9.”

Other popular rides are the Fireball (a 360-degree roller coaster), the Tornado (orbiting teacups), bumper cars and a carousel. Dave Sorensen of Hastings said his 7-year-old daughter, Mckenna, loves the car ride.
