Police arrest car theft suspect

State Patrol helicopter searches an area west of
Brickyard Park following a chase after the
suspect fled on foot.

Police arrested a 30-year-old Franklin man after a four-hour search that began with him allegedly stealing a car and ramming it into an unmarked police car Thursday afternoon.

Travis Norris was taken into custody for fleeing to avoid arrest, possession of stolen property, willful reckless driving and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

Hastings police had information that Norris was driving a stolen vehicle, and they found the vehicle with Norris in it near the police station.

Hastings Police Capt. Adam Story said an officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but Norris rammed a moving unmarked police car and fled in the stolen vehicle about 1:30 p.m.

Police said Norris violated stop signs and a traffic signal on his way to Brickyard Park. At the park, he drove into the grass on the west side and into a ditch.

Norris got out of the vehicle and ran on foot into a cornfield to the west of Brickyard Park, police said.

Story said the man wore shorts, but was shirtless and shoeless. A pair of flip-flops was found in the vehicle.
