Friday night at Duncan during the Johnny Hopp Tournament.
What loss to Lincoln Southeast?
Five Points Bank senior legion baseball coach Steve Illingworth told his players to forget all about Thursday’s loss, in which Hastings committed eight errors, and start the Johnny Hopp tournament the right way.
And they did.
Five Points Bank got another brilliant pitching performance from Mason Spilinek and a six-run sixth inning to win its first game of the tournament 6-2 on Friday night.
Illingworth said his team appeared to be a different ball club.
“That was a great turnaround for us because, last night, coaches were disappointed and the players were disappointed in the way we played,” Illingworth said. “I told them to have amnesia, and they did. They stayed in the ball game until the sixth inning and put up those six runs in the one inning. I just said that goes to show that if you stay close you always have a chance.”
