AYR — Thanks to grant funds and hard work from Ayr residents, Crystal Lake will be able to make improvements this fall, including installing an irrigation well to pump water into the lake.
Crystal Lake was awarded $10,000 in September from the Adams County Convention and Visitors Bureau Improvement Fund. The funds are generated by a 1 percent increase to the city of Hastings’ 2 percent lodging tax.
The additional tax that went into effect Jan. 1 was established to help fund improvement projects that will keep visitors coming to Hastings and Adams County.
Currently, green moss covers the lake and makes fishing difficult, said Randy Kort, a member of the Ayr Village Board. So the village, which maintains Crystal Lake, began looking at possible improvements to the lake.
“We wanted to figure out a way to make it deeper,” he said.
