Sandy Creek grieves student killed in crash Friday
FAIRFIELD — Students, families and educators from the Sandy Creek Public Schools community have been grieving since 18-year-old Casie Gibbs of Clay Center was killed Friday night in a two-vehicle collision.
Four Sandy Creek students were involved in the crash. Gibbs died as a result of the collision. Another student was transported to a hospital in Lincoln and continues to recover from injuries.
The other two students were treated at Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings and released.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office has not yet released the names of the other students involved.
“Sandy Creek Public Schools is saddened by the news of the tragedy,” Superintendent Randall Gilson said this morning. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Casie Gibbs and also to the students and families of everyone involved in the accident. It’s a hard time for us: the school, the community.”
Gibbs was a senior at Sandy Creek. She moved into the district and began attending Sandy Creek her junior year.
Gilson wrote in a statement that in the short time Casie attended Sandy Creek, she made a positive impact with students and teachers and will be missed.
