Apache Avenue looks like a war zone.
Holes large enough to swallow a Ford F-150 are in nearly every front yard of the northwest Hastings neighborhood for about two blocks.
But cast-iron water mains, not land mines, are the culprit.
Steve Cogley, Hastings Utilities customer relations coordinator, said there have been five water main breaks on the street over the past 10 years.
“That is an unusually high amount,” he said.
