at Parkview Cemetery Sunday.
Cold and blustery conditions the past few days couldn’t keep a few history buffs and a bunch of people who love entertainment from learning more about Hastings during a special program at Parkview Cemetery.
The Adams County Historical Society and the Hastings Community Theatre hosted the second annual Adams County Cemetery Walk Thursday, Friday and Sunday at Parkview Cemetery.
Actors from the community theater portrayed seven different people from Adams County history who are buried at Parkview Cemetery, including the wife of an early homesteader, an early Hastings car dealer and a veteran of the World Wars.
The actors portrayed the individuals and told the characters’ stories from a first-person perspective while dressed in period clothing and standing next to the grave of their namesake.
This is the second year actor Paul Hamelink of Hastings has portrayed a character in the walk and said he really enjoys the true history of the characters they portray.
“This is the real deal here,” Hamelink said Sunday. “Hopefully people won’t forget the stories seeing them portrayed. It’s very entertaining, but it’s also historical fact.”
