MADISON, S.D. — The last time the Hastings College football team started out 4-0 was in 2007, however the Broncos lost their next game on the schedule. HC entered Saturday’s game at 4-0, but this time it would not be denied its fifth win.
The NAIA No. 21 Broncos improved to 5-0 with a 55-19 victory over Dakota State (0-7) Saturday. Hastings head coach Tony Harper said his team started to take its foot off the gas pedal but quickly regrouped and stuck it to the Trojans.
“Well, I thought the kids competed pretty hard and pretty well. We kind of hit that lull for a little bit. We just had a couple mental breakdowns and they made plays,” Harper said. “We just kind of at times took the drive down offensively. Defensively, we got a few three-and-outs and then they got the momentum back because we had one or two guys miss an assignment here or there. At that time, we woke up and played better football.”
