Whippets ready for upcoming challenges

A volleyball program that has been playing at a high level for the last couple years is again one of the teams to beat in 2012.

The Class C-1 No. 6 Minden Whippets are off to an 18-4 start, with only a few games left on their schedule before districts begin.

But each of those games will be a big test, starting tonight as the Whippets host Southern Valley (11-8) and Alma (11-5) in a triangular.

“We haven’t been playing at home for a long time; this is our first home match since the second week of the season,” said head coach Ed Rowse, whose team is currently riding a four-game winning streak. “It’s been one of those years where the schedule has been turned upside down, so we haven’t been home.”
