D State Cross Country meet at Kearney Country Club.
KEARNEY — The 2012 state cross country meet got off to a shaky start at the Kearney Country Club. In the first race of the competition, the Class D girls race, the runners had to come back only seconds after taking off. A girl fell causing a restart. But from there it was all business from the competitors.
The Kenesaw boys team placed seventh with a team score of 125 points, while St. Cecilia finished (171) 12th. Thayer Central placed seventh in the girls race, scoring a 131.
Franklin's Kelsey Randall led all Class D Tribland runners with an eighth-place finish, running the race in 16:08.8. Randall, a junior, gained ground on the final stretch, passing numerous competitors on her way to a top-10 finish.
"I was in 16th place and I had all of my family yelling for me, and it had been my goal all year to get a medal here. And it obviously paid off," Randall said.
