Two arrested following manhunt near Hebron

HEBRON — Two Lincoln men were arrested near here late Wednesday morning after being seen fleeing from a burning stolen vehicle, the Thayer County Sheriff's Office said.

Dayton Hunt and Lynn Vieselmeyer, both 18, were taken into custody without incident around 11:30 a.m. following a 2 1/2-hour manhunt and were taken to the Thayer County Jail in Hebron, where they were booked.

Charges against the men are expected in Thayer, Jefferson and Lancaster counties, the Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

Wednesday's drama began at 8:48 a.m. when the Sheriff's Office received a 911 call reporting that a vehicle was on fire four miles east of Hebron on the River Road. The Hebron Volunteer Fire Department responded.

When sheriff's deputies arrived on the scene, the fire chief pointed to two individuals running south across a field toward the Little Blue River. The deputies pursued them, but they crossed the river and continued to flee.
