Deshler's Jenscena Hansen spikes the ball past Kenesaw's
Bailey Streff Thursday in Kenesaw.
KENESAW — It took one set for the Deshler volleyball team to up its game in the Kenesaw triangular. The Dragons lost the first set of the night to Kenesaw, but after that, it was all Deshler.
The Dragons went 2-0 in Kenesaw on Thursday, beating Kenesaw 17-25, 25-16, 25-18 and Franklin 25-12, 25-8. In the final match of the night, the Blue Devils defeated the Flyers 25-15, 25-11.
Deshler head coach Al Meier said it was a team effort, but few can deny that junior Jenscena Hansen could not be stopped.
“Over the year, we’ve done a great job trying to keep the ball alive, and that goes for everybody across the net,” said Meier, whose Dragons improved to 7-1. “We’ve just done a better job with that. As far as Jenscena, yes, she had a good night tonight. Lauren (Schmidt) had a good night tonight. But the other thing that helped was we handled the ball well in the back row, so we got some good passes. ... That’s what got us started. So, if we can handle the ball, like anyone else, we’re going to be all right.”
